In advance of the Budget Session of the Parliament More than 400 members of the Parliament’s staff were found to be positive for COVID-19 according to government sources.
The officials informed ANI that 402 employees were positive among the 1,409 members in Parliament in the Parliamentary area for the virus during January 4 to 8 , after the samples were tested for genome analysis to confirm the virus’s variant.
“Close to 402 staffs were tested positive for COVID-19 from January 4-8 and all samples have been sent to genome sequencing for Omicron variant confirmation,” an official said to ANI.
In a memo sent by staff members of Parliament The staff is instructed to observe the safety precautions according to the guidelines issued by the government.
“There is a consolidated list of 200 Lok Sabha and 69 from Rajya Sabha and 133 allied staff who have tested positive, but we all need to take proper precautions,” an internal message read.
The list above does not contain the names of those who were examined for COVID outside of the Parliament’s premises.
A number of employees from both Houses of Parliament were isolated when they came in contact with their colleagues infected at work. Many officials from Parliament’s Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are also being kept in isolation.
A recent decision from the DDMA instructed all government offices to operate less than 50% of capacity of staff, and the remaining are to work at home. In addition, taking the latest version COVID-19, COVID-19, Omicron seriously, the Central government has also exempted staff from the requirement of biometric (daily punching) to verify attendance.
