8. Bacon and other processed meats
Bacon, sausage, ham, and other processed meats can taste great, but that’s usually because of the added salt and cooking techniques designed to appeal to our taste buds. (Well, that’s for the meat eaters anyway.)
Processed meats are high in saturated fat and are high in calories. Consuming such foods can lead to health problems, including weight gain.
Adding to the problem is the level of salt commonly found in these meats. Eating too much salt can make us thirsty and dehydrated. In addition, processed meat has been linked to stomach and intestinal problems later in life.
On the plus side, bacon and hot dogs provide protein, keeping us full for a long time and giving us enough energy for all the work we need to get done each morning. But a healthier, animal-protein option is eggs, so opt for a few poached, hard-boiled or scrambled eggs on whole-grain toast for an energizing, healthy breakfast. healthy and low in fat.
We’re not saying completely avoid bacon and hot dogs. If you enjoy eating them, save them for the occasional weekend breakfast and avoid consuming them daily.
