13. Pop Tarts
Pop Tarts first appeared on our breakfast tables in the 1990s in the UK and it was amazing how popular they were! They’re convenient, delicious, and full of fun, but that’s where the good stuff ends. These delightful instant breakfast treats are packed with processed white flour, artificial colors, and sugar — plenty, about four teaspoons per Pop Tart.
As adults, we can long for nostalgia for our childhood when we didn’t have to worry about the dangers of sugar in our breakfast. But picking up a Pop Tart for breakfast (or for our kids) really should only be very occasional.
Starting the day with too much sugar is sure to give us a high-octane sugar rush, followed by an even more inevitable crash as we feel sluggish and lethargic, craving Eat the next amount of sugar. Then we are more likely to make more unhealthy choices throughout the day.
But not only. Consuming a diet high in sugar can lead to health problems like weight gain and high blood sugar, which can have more serious consequences later on. So consider these fun, artificially colored and high-sugar breakfast ideas (which also lack many other nutrients that are beneficial to our health) as a rarity.
