12. Doughnuts
CORRECT. So let’s talk about donuts. Sweet, sweet donuts and delicious jam. They’re great, aren’t they? But you don’t need us to tell you they’re not a great breakfast choice. High in saturated fat (fried donuts, in case you didn’t know!) and sugar, and relatively low in healthy elements like fiber and vitamins, donuts are definitely a treat.
But the problem is that they are sold in cafes, and when do we go to the cafe most often? That’s right, at breakfast time! And they were sitting there, looking good, round and donut-shaped, pulling us in through the glass. If we’re feeling particularly tired, stressed, or emotional, chances are we’ll ditch the yogurt and granola we’ve planned and opt for donuts instead.
Without keeping us full until lunchtime, we hit the familiar high sugar levels after eating a donut, then crash again when our blood sugar drops shortly after. Lunchtime seemed to last for hours and we grabbed a chocolate bar to continue. Harm to our healthy diet.
So save these treats as occasional treats.
